South Australia - The Northeast

With its rugged Outback, dramatic coastline, world-class vineyards and historic towns and cities, South Australia certainly has a lot to offer to visitors. It is a diverse state made up mostly of dramatic arid and semi-arid country known as the Outback, areas of greener land towards the beautiful coastline and along Australia's longest river, the mighty Murray. The state is a place where visitors can get up close and personal with the authentic Australia, be that wildlife, the beauty of the outback or the long coastline. With world-class wine, friendly people, an unspoilt environment and a very relaxed pace of life, it offers the break in Australia that visitors may have been looking for.

North of Port Augusta is where the Australian outback starts and the scenery changes rapidly fromm lushy green hills to dry, red plains. The area to the east is home to several historic mineral mining towns and the stunning Flinders Ranges national park, while the area to the west is very sparsley populated, except for the one of a kind opal mining town of Coober Pedy.
