North of Port Augusta is where the Australian outback starts and the scenery changes rapidly fromm lushy green hills to dry, red plains. The area to the east is home to several historic mineral mining towns and the stunning Flinders Ranges national park, while the area to the west is very sparsley populated, except for the one of a kind opal mining town of Coober Pedy.
